With losses mounting for Russell Wilson’s Broncos, the Seahawks continue to reap the rewards
When the Seahawks decided to pull the trigger and trade Russell Wilson in March, the Broncos expected to become an immediate contender in a stacked AFC, justifying their decision to give away several first- and second-round picks to improve the most important position in the sport.
But after losing a second straight overtime to the Los Angeles Chargers on Monday night and falling to 2-4 on the season, it’s safe to say Wilson and his new team have yet to live up to expectations. While the rest of the AFC West is rejoicing that first-year coach Nathaniel Hackett’s team is still underachieving, no one could be more excited about the poor start than Seattle, who has undoubtedly won the business up to this point.
Continuing the season’s offensive funk, despite Wilson completing each of his first 10 passes and throwing an early touchdown to get off to a fast start, Denver could only put 16 points on the scoreboard. The nine-time Pro Bowl quarterback, who was apparently dealing with a hamstring injury, returned to his subpar play from the first five games of the season after halftime, completing just three of 11 throws in the final two quarters and overtime.
