Dozens of people are believed to have died after two planes collided in a mid-air accident.
Initial reports indicate that the incident occurred during an attempted landing in Watsonville, California, and involved three people in a Cessna 152 and a Cessna 340 private plane.
No one on the ground was injured, according to the Federal Aviation Authority (FAA).
The accident happened shortly before 3pm (11pm UK time), as the two planes collided near the city’s airport.
One of the planes crashed in a field, while one plane reportedly hit a hole. A photo posted to the City of Watsonville’s official Twitter account shows a display of a small plane outside the airport hangar.
The FAA and the National Transportation Safety Board will investigate the incident.
