October 25th is World Pasta Day. People have been eating pasta since at least 5,000 BC. However, this wonderful holiday was created only in 1995, when 40 pasta producers from all over the world gathered at the first world pasta congress in the world. Since then, every October, the world has joined forces to pay tribute to one of the tastiest and most versatile foods known to man. Whether you prefer rigatoni, angel hair or pappardelle, you will love this holiday!

WHEN IS WORLD PASTA DAY

World Pasta Day on October 25th celebrates all shapes, sizes, and pasta!

HISTORY OF WORLD PASTA DAY
It may come as a shock, but Chef Boyardee didn’t invent pasta, although actual Italian chef Hector Boiardi founded the company in Pennsylvania more than 80 years ago.

(By the way, he has amassed a net worth of $60 million.) Honestly, the world has been enjoying this dish since the first century AD.

While legend has it that Marco Polo imported pasta from China in the 1200s, British food writer Jane Grigson believes that a Canadian spaghetti company may have started the story in the 1920s.

We know that dried pasta expanded rapidly during the 14th and 15th centuries – mainly because of its easy storage. This allowed people to take pasta on ships when exploring the New World.

Hungary boasted a pasta factory in 1859, while Buitoni in central Italy began churning out pasta just eight years later. In 1884, this trend also moved to today’s Czech Republic.

While in Paris, President Jefferson ate what he called “macaroni,” but it could have been any type of pasta.
He eventually returned to America with two cases. The popularity of pasta continued to flourish in the US in the late 19th century when a large group of Italian immigrants (mostly from Naples) moved to America.

World Pasta Day itself started only recently in 1995, when 40 pasta producers from all over the world gathered at the first World Pasta Congress.

Since then, diners around the world have joined forces every October to pay homage to one of the tastiest and most versatile foods ever.
