Homes across the state are flooded with rain and snow is freezing cars.

“I have no words to describe the devastation that day will reveal in eastern Kentucky,” said WKYT Chief Meteorologist Chris Bailey.

“This could be one of the worst floods ever to hit the state.”
There are unusually severe weather warnings across the state and in Breathitt County, courts have been opened to protect flood evacuees.

The regional emergency department said, “Many roads in the city are covered in water and impassable. Please stay off the road if possible tonight.

“Courts are now open for water lifters if you have nowhere else to go.”

The National Weather Service says life-threatening flooding is possible in several counties, including Breathitt, Perry, Owsley, Knott and Clay.

As of four hours ago, at least five water rescues were underway in Perry County.

The Weather Channel wrote on Twitter that multiple flood warnings are in place for eastern Kentucky.

State Governor Andy Beshear wrote: “Kentucky, please be aware of the weather. “Heavy rain is expected across the Commonwealth until Friday, with flooding possible in the eastern part of the state. Please stay alert and take all precautions to ensure your safety and that of others.

Along with his warning message, he uploaded a picture showing the forecast level across the state till Friday.
