Harrison Gilks, a popular TikTok personality from Canada, has died. He was 18 years old.
His family confirmed the news and wrote in an obituary: “Harrison was an inspiration to many. His smile could light up a room, his laugh could cheer anyone up. He was our sunshine on a cloudy day. He always found the good in every situation.” and touched the lives of many with his messages of hope and encouragement through his TikTok videos chronicling and sharing his cancer journey with the world.”
Gilks died March 30 at Dr. Regional Hospital. Everett Chalmers after his battle with cancer. According to CBC News, Gilks has been battling a rare form of cancer known as rhabdomyosarcoma, which he was diagnosed with in November 2020.
His family further noted his inspiring journey to health in his obituary, saying: “He was determined not to let cancer get in his way. But after almost two and a half years of fighting hard, knowing he could, knowing he was loved and strong, he said goodbye.’
Gilks is survived by his parents Trevor and Sonya Gilks, his younger brother David Gilks and other family members.
In fact, David poignantly shared the latest upload on his brother’s popular TikTok account, informing his 314,000 followers: “I’m making this video because unfortunately Harrison passed away a few hours ago. When he died he was in no pain and was with his family.”
“He and his friends have been given a chance to say goodbye over the last few weeks,” he continued. “I just wanted to come and thank everyone from all over the world for their support and encouragement, it really meant a lot to him.
