Intel unveils world’s fastest desktop processor

Intel has announced that the company will be releasing a new 5.5 GHz, i9-12900KS, 12th-gen processor from April 5th, 2022. The new flagship processor is going to be super fast, to say the least, but it is not going to be cheap by any means. It is mainly aimed at users with heavy GPU usage like 4k gamers and media industry users who use graphics and illustrations. Users can overclock their CPUs to with the unlocked i9-12900KS getting 16 cores that are evenly split to support performance and efficiency.

It also gets 24 threads on the performance cores, a 150 W base power unit, 30 MB L3 cache and turbo frequency of up to 5.5 GHz.Marcus Kennedy, General Manager of Intel’s gaming, creator as well as e-sports segment says that this is the first time the i9-12900KS can hit 5.5 GHz on up to 2 cores based on Intel’s 12th Generation performance hybrid architecture. The core i9-12900KS was announced in October 2021, will cost around $610. The KS version ups performance by improving performance of frequencies as compared to the K version’s efficiency and performance cores. Latest pricing reports say that the actual price of the processor will be close to $800. AMD’s Ryzen 7 5800X3D will be it’s main competitor which comes with 8 cores, 64 MB L3 cache and will be available for $449 from April 20, according to AMD.Intel has also listed other features for the processor like PCIe Gen 5.0 s well as 4.0 support; support for up to DDR5-4800 as well as DDR4 3200, and have integrated Intel UHD 770 graphics support along with a chipset that’s compatible with existing Z690 motherboards with latest BIOS.

The 16 cores are split in two clusters – eight for performance and the other eight for efficiency. The chipset is compatible with Z690 motherboards and Intel recommended the latest BIOS for “the best gaming experience”.
