Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has once again courted controversy after questioning polygamy among Muslims.
“Today the country is developing, how can one Muslim husband marry 4 wives? We are happy when 2 or 3 children are born, but if you tell a woman to give birth to 10-12 children, it sounds like a baby “making machine, ” Sarma was quoted as saying by ANI in Mulki in Dakshina Kannada district of Karnataka.
He then targeted Rahul Gandhi for his party’s poll promises in Karnataka. “Congress said we are guaranteeing the people of Karnataka. First, tell me who will take Rahul Gandhi’s guarantee? He lost UP elections and left for Kerala. One day his face will become like Saddam Hussein and the next day like Amul baby,” he said.
Sarma had earlier said that the Congress manifesto exposed the mindset of the party and its hatred for the majority community, culture and dharma of the country. He said the Congress manifesto was a document of the politics of appeasement and accused the previous Siddaramaiah government in Karnataka of withdrawing several cases registered against activists of the now-banned Popular Front of India (PFI).
The ASSAM CM then criticized the grand old party for equating PFI with Bajrang Dal. Meanwhile, the Assam CM responded to KPCC chief DK Shivakumar’s remark that Sarma has Congress DNA. “The blood flowing through my veins comes from my parents, my state and my country and I am immensely proud of it. I request dear DK Shivakumar Ji to take similar pride in his own blood flowing from his parents, sacred.” Karnataka and Bharat Mata country,” Sarma tweeted
Talking to reporters, the KPCC chief said, “Himant Biswa Sarma’s DNA is the DNA of the Congress. He should know that his blood is the blood of the Congress, the blood of Gandhi. Now he has changed his blood.”
