Google sues Sonos over smart speaker and voice control tech
Alphabet’s Google stepped up its legal battle with Sonos Inc on Monday, filing a lawsuit in a California federal court that says Sonos’ new voice assistant technology infringes on several of Google’s patents.
Sonos’ voice control feature for its smart speakers, released in May, infringes seven patents related to Google Assistant technology, the lawsuit said.
The new lawsuit adds to an ongoing patent battle between former partners over smart speaker technology, including lawsuits in California, Canada, France, Germany and the Netherlands. Sonos defeated an import ban on some Google devices from the United States International Trade Commission in January.
