India finished fourth with 22 golds, 15 silvers and 23 bronzes and a total of 61 medals at the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games which ended on Monday. Even though India could not surpass their medal in the Gold Coast match, as despite the shootout in this edition, it was a great performance from the Indians in this edition of the match. India ended the final day in the overall medal race bagging 4 gold, 1 silver and 1 bronze.

The Indian adventurers emerged prominent during the Games winning 6 medals (3 gold, 1 silver, 2 bronze) across all six events with only mixed doubles missing.

In football, Achanta Sharath Kamal has emerged as a CWG legend after winning the men’s singles gold. This is his third gold medal in the Games and his fourth overall. Sharath has won a total of 13 Commonwealth Games medals. He defeated Liam Pitchford of England in five games (11-13, 11-7, 11-2, 11-6, 11-8).

Earlier, Sathiyan Gnanasekaran won the bronze in the men’s singles to make it 1-3 in the men’s singles after defeating England’s Paul Drinkhall in 7 hard-fought games (11-9, 11-3, 11-5 , 8-11). 9-11,10-12,11-9).

P.V Sindhu started the day by winning India’s first gold medal by beating Canadian Michelle Lee in straight sets (21-15, 21-13). Lakshya Sen showed courage to beat Malaysian Tze Yong Ng from behind in straight sets (19-21, 21-9, 21-16). In the men’s doubles gold medal match, the pair of Satwik Sairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty made short work of England’s Ben Lane and Sean Vendy 21-15, 21-13.

In one of their worst performances in recent times, the Indian men’s hockey team suffered an embarrassing 0-7 defeat at the hands of defending champions Australia to clinch the silver medal. Australia chased away India with their deadly pace and relentless attack, extending their dominance in the CWG standings.

Since the beginning of the hockey game in 1998, Australia has been climbing to the top of the game. This is India’s third win over Australia in the CWG final, having won the 2010 and 2014 editions of the Games.
