Winter storm to bring a mixed bag of rain, snow, significant icing to area through midweek
Another severe winter storm is set to hit the region beginning late Monday afternoon/evening and continuing into Wednesday. The ABC 6 News Weather First team locally says we’ll be dealing with ice for Minnesota and Iowa,
while the west and north will lack heavy snow. Freezing rain will be the main player Monday night into Tuesday afternoon. Ice accumulations of 1/10″ to 1/2″ are possible. Dangerous ice travel is expected.
The potential for power outages and downed trees is also increased with the addition of strong winds Tuesday and Wednesday morning.
Gusts may reach 25-30 mph during this time. Temperatures will warm briefly Tuesday afternoon, which may help mitigate some of the worst impacts. An **Ice Storm Warning** is in effect for areas generally west of Hwy 52 from Monday evening until Tuesday evening due to possible significant icing.
Meanwhile, a **Winter Weather Advisory** is in effect for the same time period for all other counties in the area. There will also be some snow. Right at the start on Monday evenings, but also regularly on our northern edge. Tuesday night will also wrap us all in light snow. Locally, snow amounts will remain less than 3″, highest in the north.
Impacts will be felt from Monday evening when a wintry mix and freezing rain develops. As temperatures warm up a bit on Tuesday, a mix/snow and rain is likely with some lingering impacts. Cooler temperatures end at the end of the week.
