Viral: Mumbai cop hits hotel cashier on refusing free food

Departmental enquiry has been initiated towards an Assistant Police Inspector (API) of Vakola police station after he was captured in a cctv footage assaulting a cashier of a hotel for allegedly not serving him food and alcohol post midnight on Thursday. The cashier was roughed up when he refused to send food and alcohol sitting kitchen was closed post midnight. The Vakola police has registered an non cognizable (NC) offence into the incident. 

API Vikram Patil of Vakola police station called for the food and alcohol from Swagat Dining and Bar located next to Vakola police station post midnight on Thursday. However the cashier Ramdas Patil said that kitchen was closed for the day. It was then the officer walked into the hotel from back door and rouged up the cashier. The officer and was seen pulling the cashier’s shirt and slapping him a number of times, the rest of the hotel employees were seen making an attempt the settle down the officer.

After learning about the incident, the hotel supervisor dialled police control room and called for help. On the grievance of Ramdas the Vakola police gave register an NC under IPC section 323

In a press statement the AHAR (Indian Hotel & Restaurant Association) has condemned the assault on a hotel workers by an API attached to Vakola Police Station for not being served “free food and drinks”.

Commenting on this, Mr. Shivanand Shetty, President, AHAR said, “We strongly condemn this incident which not only brings a bad name to the Police force but also cause business communities to lose trust in the law enforcement agencies. Restaurant owners want nothing more than to peacefully conduct their legitimate business and hence we request that very strict action should be initiated against the cop in order to prevent such occurrences in future, wherein law enforcers themselves become law breakers.”
