Netflix’s ‘Ozark’ ends as a thrilling, yet disappointing take on a criminal family
It’s strange to write a series appreciation when you’re not sure if it’s a great television show.
And yet, here I am, deconstructing the complicated legacy of Netflix’s Ozark, which premieres its final seven episodes today.
I’ve been a fan of the show since the first episode aired in 2017, when Jason Bateman painted a compelling and resonant portrait of a man under duress:
Marty Byrde, a financial manager and secret money launderer for a Mexican drug cartel, is forced to relocate his family to the Ozarks after his business partner tries to defraud their boss and is killed as a result.
But now that we’re nearing the end of that journey, it’s time to celebrate.
