Lunar eclipse November 2021: Timings and all about the longest partial Chandra Grahan

1049

The longest partial lunar eclipse in 580 years will happen on 19 November and might be visible from portions of Northeast India. The lunar eclipse, the last of 2021, will be the longest since the fifteenth century. The last time an eclipse this long took place was on 18 February 1440.

The longest partial lunar eclipse of the century will happen on November 19 with great visibility in North America, predicted NASA.

The space agency mentioned the eclipse could last up to 3 hours and 28 minutes –  during which 97% of the moon will appear in red. The eclipse is most probably to be longer than any other eclipse between 2001 and 2100.

The longest partial lunar eclipse will occur on 19 November and will start at 12.48 pm and end at 4.17 pm.

Will Lunar Eclipse 2021 be visible in India?

It might be visible in India at 2.34 pm as 97 per cent of the moon will be covered by the Earth’s shadow. The rare phenomenon might be visible from a few areas in Arunachal Pradesh and Assam, Director of Research and Academic at MP Birla Planetarium Debiprosad Duari told PTI. “A few areas in Arunachal Pradesh and Assam will experience the last fleeting moments of the partial eclipse just after the moonrise, very close to the eastern horizon,” he explained.

Earth will cross between the sun and the moon in the early hours of November 19, casting a shadow on the latter. NASA stated the eclipse will peak at 4 AM ET (1:30 pm Saturday, Indian Standard Time (IST).

The eclipse will happen on November 18 and 19 and people across the world will be in a position to catch a glimpse at different times, depending on their time zones. But the night gazers on the east coast of the US will be able to get the best view from 2-4 AM ET, in accordance to NASA.

The eclipse will also be visible from South America, Eastern Asia, the Pacific area, and Australia. Besides this eclipse, there will be 20 overall, partial and penumbral eclipses between 2021 and 2030.

Those who will be unable to see the celestial event from their houses can watch it on NASA’s live stream.

Chandra Grahan 2021:
