Kosovo closes two border crossings after local Serbs block roads
Kosovo police said they closed two boundary crossings in the unstable north after neighborhood Serbs hindered roads and discharged shots at police in protest at a request to switch Serb vehicle license plates to Kosovan ones in two months or less.
Fourteen years after Kosovo pronounced freedom from Serbia, some 50,000 Serbs living in the north use license plates and documents issued by Serbian authorities, refusing to perceive institutions under the capital, Pristina. Kosovo has been perceived as a free state by in excess of 100 countries however not by Serbia or Russia.
The Gov of Prime Minister Albin Kurti said it would provide Serbs with a transitional time of 60 days starting Aug 1 to get Kosovo license plates, a year in the wake of quitting any pretense of attempting to impose them because of similar protests.
The public authority also concluded that as of Aug 1, all citizens from Serbia visiting Kosovo would need to get an additional record at the line to concede them permission to enter.
A similar rule is applied by Belgrade authorities to Kosovars who visit Serbia.
