A total of 32 Indians trapped in Myanmar’s Myawaddy region have been rescued after falling victim to an international missile attack promising employment in Thailand. We strive to help others, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said on Friday.

The Myanmar government does not fully control the Myawaddy area in Kayin state in southeastern Myanmar, bordering Thailand, and it is controlled by certain ethnic armed groups.

“Some fraudulent IT companies seem to be involved in digital fraud and fake crypto activities. They appear to operate through agents in Dubai, Bangkok and India and recruit Indian workers on the pretext of job opportunities in Thailand in the IT sector there,” said Arindam Bagchi, spokesperson for the Ministry of External Affairs.

“Workers are lured by social media ads for highly lucrative data entry jobs in Thailand. Unfortunately, these workers are then smuggled across the border into the Myawaddy region of Myanmar, an area that you know is difficult to access due to local security.” situation,” he added.

He further added that thanks to the efforts of the Indian missions in Myanmar and Thailand, 32 of these victims were rescued from captivity.
