India beat New Zealand by 73 runs in the third and final T20 of the three-match series at Kolkata’s Eden Gardens on November 21.

India clean swept the series 3-0 on Rohit Sharma’s debut series as T20I captain.

Needing 185 runs to win, New Zealand was bowled out for 111 by Indian bowlers in 17.2 overs.

Opener Martin Guptill 51 runs (36 balls, 4 fours, 4 sixes) was the only Kiwi batsmen to cross 20-run mark.

Axar Patel was the star performer for India with the balls as he picked up 9/3 in his 3 overs. Harshal Patel (26/2 off 3 overs), Venkatesh Iyer (12/1 off 3 overs), Yuzvendra Chahal (26/1 off 4 overs) and Deepak Chahar (26/1 off 2.2 overs) were the other successful bowlers for India.

Earlier, Team India skipper Rohit Sharma won the toss and decided to bat against Mitchell Santner-led New Zealand.

India scored 184/7 in 20 overs, thanks to brilliant opening stand of 69 runs in just 6.2 overs between Rohit Sharma 56 runs (31 balls, 5 fours, 3 sixes) and Ishan Kishan 29 runs (21 balls, 6 fours).

India lost some quick wickets after the the fall of Kishan. Shreyas Iyer 25 runs (20 balls, 2 fours) and Venkatesh Iyer 20 runs (15 balls, 1 four, 1 six) put on a partnership of 36 runs for the fifth wicket.

Some good blows from Deepak Chahar 21 not out (8 balls, 2 fours, 1 six) and Harshal Patel 18 runs (11 balls, 2 fours, 1 six) ensured that India ended up with a good score on the board.

Mitchell Santner (27/3 off 4 overs) was the pick of the Kiwi bowlers. Ish Sodhi (31/1 off 4 overs), Trent Boult (31/1 off 4 overs), Lockie Ferguson (45/1 off 4 overs) and Adam Milne (47/1 off 4 overs) also picked up wickets for NZ.
