New Zealand set a target of 154 runs for India in the second T20 of the three-match series at JSCA International Stadium Complex in Ranchi on November 19.

Earlier, Team India skipper Rohit Sharma won the toss and invited Tim Southee-led New Zealand to bat.

Openers Martin Guptill 31 runs (15 balls, 3 fours, 2 sixes) and Daryl Mitchell 31 runs (28 balls, 3 fours) gave a rollicking start to New Zealand as they put on 48 runs in 4.2 overs. However, New Zealand team lost the plot and the team managed just 153/6 in 20 overs when it was looking good for a score of around 200 runs.

Glenn Phillips 34 runs (21 balls, 1 four, 3 sixes) and Mark Chapman 21 runs (17 balls, 3 fours) were the other batsmen to make major contribution towards Kiwi score.

Ravichandran Ashwin (19/1 off 4 overs), Harshal Patel (25/2 off 4 overs) and Axar Patel (26/1 off 4 overs) were the bowlers who stopped Kiwi team from ending up with a big score.

Bhuvneshwar Kumar (39/1 off 4 overs) and Deepak Chahar (42/1 off 4 overs) also picked up wickets but gave away runs in their opening spell.

India took 1-0 lead in the T20 series by beating New Zealand by 5 wickets in the first match played at Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur on November 17.

This is the first series of Rohit Sharma and Rahul Dravid as Team India’s captain-coach pair in T20 format and the victory in first match was welcomed by experts and fans after their poor performance in the recently concluded ICC T20 World Cup 2021 played in UAE.
