How the Missile Pendant Wore by Kim Jong Un’s Wife Went Viral

Is it ‘Neck lace’ or ‘Nuke lace’? That’s the question netizens are asking on social media about Kim Jong-un’s wife Ri Sol Ju’s rocket pendant.

Ri Sol Ju, Kim Jong Un’s wife, wears a bullet pendant at the Korean People’s Army’s 75th anniversary celebration in Pyongyang on Tuesday. The silver necklace stole the spotlight because it looked similar to North Korea’s largest intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) – the Hwasong-17 ICBM.

Many social media users referred to the necklace as “nuke-lace”. Solid-fuel ICBMs would make the nation’s wartime nuclear missiles more susceptible to detection and destruction, making it a long-term national priority.

While Kim’s daughter Kim Ju Ae dressed in a black and white brooch suit for the occasion, her mother opted for a black coat and hat. Before a massive military parade, Sol Ju was seen wearing an “atomic necklace” at a banquet table, surrounded by her husband, daughter and warlords.

He was also seen with his daughter Kim Ju-ae, fueling speculation that she is being positioned as a successor.

At a pre-show banquet with military chiefs, Kim Ju-ae was pictured taking center stage as she sat between the North Korean leader and his wife, a position usually reserved for her father. While some analysts believe Ju-ae is Kim’s heir apparent, others believe the government may be trying to portray the North Korean leader as a “family man” with the claim, according to a BBC report.

The outlet further adds that Kim Jong Un is the father of at least three children, including an older son and a younger daughter. Ju-ae is believed to be his second child, according to the BBC. In November 2022, she made her first public appearance when she accompanied her father to witness a major ICBM launch.

Wednesday night’s parade featured the latest technology and the country’s largest missiles, including at least 11 previously tested ICBMs and tactical nuclear weapons units, state media reported Thursday, referring to the short-range systems for battlefield use.
