Gandhinagar Court holds Asaram Bapu guilty of rape in year 2013 case

A court in Gandhinagar has held Asharam guilty of rape, acquits six others including his wife and daughter

Rape accused Asaram Bapu was convicted of rape by the Gandhinagar court. The sessions court will pronounce the quantum of punishment tomorrow.

Gandhinagar: The District and Sessions Court today found Asaram Bapu guilty of rape in its verdict. Asaram Bapu faces up to 10 years in prison.

The court will announce the amount of the penalty in this case on January 31 after 11:00 a.m. Asaram was convicted under Sections 376(2)C, 377, 342, 357 and 506 of the IPC. In 2013, a woman from Surat registered a case against Asaram Bapu for allegedly raping her in 2001. 55 witnesses appeared before the court. court in this case.

Out of the total number of 7 accused, all 6 except Asaram Bapu are acquitted on grounds of doubt in this case. Among the other 6 accused were the wife and daughter of Asaram Bapu and the trustee of the Mahila Ashram. Asaram Bapu is currently in jail in Jodhpur for another rape case.

He was produced before a Gandhinagar court through video conferencing. Asaram’s lawyer told the media that the verdict would be challenged in the High Court after perusing the lower court’s judgment.

Asaram’s son, Narayan Sai, was sentenced to life imprisonment by a Surat court for raping the complainant’s sister.
