Delhi woman ‘raped, brutally assaulted’ in Ghaziabad; DCW issues notice to police

A 36-year-old woman from Delhi was allegedly gang-raped and brutally assaulted by a group of men in Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh, before leaving the road early on Tuesday, prompting the Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) to issue a notice to Ghaziabad. the police on the matter.

The Ghaziabad police took four men into custody and said the accused and the victim’s family were involved in a property dispute.

According to the Ghaziabad police, the woman, who stays in East Delhi, was found near the Nandgram police station at 3.30 am on Tuesday. Police reached the spot after receiving information that a woman was lying on the ground near Ashram Road and took her to the hospital.

“She said she went to her brother’s birthday party in Nandgram. When her brother let her back in, some of her acquaintances took her away. She said there were two people there and later told us that five people raped her,” said Ghaziabad SP (City) Nipun Agarwal.

“Based on her brother’s complaint, a case was registered and four people were taken into custody. There is apparently a property dispute between the family and the men, which is also being litigated. Actions are being taken,” added Agarwal.

Meanwhile, the DCW has issued a notice asking the Ghaziabad police to provide a copy of the FIR along with details of the arrested accused and an action taken report by October 21.

The DCW said in a statement that the woman was abducted by four men in a Scorpio vehicle and taken to another location where she was kept in groups for two days by them and another man. She was then bagged and left on the road and was found in a pool of blood with an iron rod inserted into her private parts and is currently hospitalized in Delhi in a serious condition, the statement added.

“When the woman was admitted to the hospital, the rod was removed with great difficulty; the woman is now fighting for her life. We have issued a notice… there should be swift arrests and strict action taken. This case is same as that of Nirbhaya… I appeal that at least this case should be expedited and these men should be punished severely,” said DCW chief Swati Maliwal.
