CWG 2022: Naveen wins India’s 6th gold medal in wrestling, beats Pakistan’s Sharif Tahir in final
Extending India’s amazing medal streak in wrestling, Naveen won his sixth gold medal of the Games at the 2022 Commonwealth Games (CWG).
The Indian wrestling star defeated Pakistani wrestler Sharif Tahir in the gold medal match to secure his place at the top of the podium in the men’s 74 kg category.
Naveen took the lead in the first half after a tough contest.
The wrestlers entered the break with the Indians 2-0 ahead. In the second half, he added his score to everything and sealed his victory.
In the end, he won the tournament by a margin of 9-0.
Naveen started his campaign by winning the 16th round of 16 match against Ogbonna Emmanuel John of Nigeria 13-3.
She eventually won in the quarterfinals against Singapore’s Hong Yeo Lou by a 10-0 margin and technical superiority.
He continued his dominance in the semi-finals by defeating England’s Charlie Bowling.
The Indians beat their reigning national team 13-1. Naveen is the 10th Indian to win a wrestling medal at CWG 2022.
On Friday August 5, Deepak Punia, Bajrang Punia and Sakshi Malik have won gold medals.
A few minutes later, Ravi Kumar Dahiya and Vinesh Phogot also won the top prize. Anshu Malik won the silver medal while Pooja Gehlot, Divya Kakran and Mohit Grewal won the bronze medal.
